Okay, first thread. I hope I'm doing this right. It'll just be a one shot to try to get rid of the writer's block I'm suffering from!
Margaret yawned as she opened the door to her tent. She had just come off duty in Post Op and was now quite tired. The head nurse was assisting the chief surgeon all day in the O.R. Poor Hawkeye had lost a patient and was taking it very hard. She half expected him to go straight to the Officer's Club or Rosie's to drown his sorrows, but she saw him go to the Swamp only moments before.
She went strait for her wall locker and slipped into her nightgown. The blonde had just slipped between the sheets on her bed when there was a knock at her door. Jumping out of bed, Margaret grabbed her robe and opened the door. "More wounded?" She asked the dark figure. She thought she knew who it was, but wasn't all that sure.
"No." Her suspicions had been confirmed when he spoke. It was Hawkeye. "I hope I didn't wake you." He sounded very concerned.
"No." Margaret shook her head. "Come in Hawk." She stood off to the side and let the handsome man pass. She turned on the light in her tent and saw just how 'down' the man looked.
"I couldn't sleep and really kind of needed a drink...I was just hoping you'd join me." He motioned to the bottle of wine he had in his hand. "I picked this up when I went to Seoul."
"Well, take a seat and I'll get some glasses." Margaret opened her bottom desk door and brought out two wine glasses. Hawkeye poured as she sat down. "A lot nicer than the last time we had a few drinks together." She chuckled. "Nothing living at the bottom of the cups." She took the glass that had the 'liquid gold' in it and took a sip.
Hawkeye laughed, half heartedly. "Margaret I really think I need to tell you somthing..." He looked down at the swirling liquid in his glass. "I've been thinking a lot about life and all after that patient..." His voice trailed off a little and Margaret gave his knee a reassuring squeeze. With a little more confidence, he started up again, "Well, I've realized that life is way too short about a thousand times since I was dragged here, but...there's something here...someone here that I just need to say something too before, God forbid, something happens."
Margaret let him talk but tilted her head a little in confusion. "What are you getting at Ben?"
The man looked up, a little surprised that the woman he was talking too just called him Ben. It was mainly just the people that were very close to him, like family, that called him that. "Margaret...since the day we got back from the 8063rd a few weeks ago...actually a lot earlier than that too...I've realized that I uh...love you more than I should. I know I said that nothing could ever come of us because we're so different, but I don't think we're all that different after all." After he was done ranting nervously, he looked up at the woman that he had just confessed his love for and noticed that she had a small smile on her face.
"Hawk..." She had reached over and covered his hand that was on the desk with hers. "I love you too." She whispered.
"But I guess nothing could ever come of it though. You're a married woman. Why do I always fall for the married ones?!" He got up and paced nervously in the small tent.
"Hawkeye!" Margaret got up and stopped him from pacing more. When he stopped, she put a hand on his shoulder. "I won't be married for much longer. I just sent in the divorce papers today. I can't be married to that man anymore. My heart belongs to someone else and he's just a big, lousy cheater who thinks a wife is just an excuse when he doesn't want to make a relationship with one of his sleazy girls on the side permanent!" She sighed, "I think something can come of us. I love you very much. You've always listened to my problems and I'm very grateful for that, but I don't think that we can honestly just stay friends."
"You don't know how long I've waited to hear you say that you wanted to be more than friends with me." Hawkeye shook his head in amazement. "Hotlips Houlihan just confessed her love to the 'Garbage Head' of the 4077th."
Margaret laughed and put her arms around the man's neck. She got up on tip toes and kissed him. It was a long and passionate kiss that neither wanted to ever end.
"Attention all personnel: Incoming wounded! No doctor should be without one." The PA system bellowed out the dreaded words.
Hawkeye touched Margaret's cheek with the back of his hand. "Do we pick this up after OR?" He looked a little disappointed.
"I'd like that." She kissed him quick before grabbing his hand and walking out of her tent and to triage with the actual love of her life right beside her.
So it wasn't the best, but it helped with some of my writer's block and I was bored! Hope you sorta liked it anyway!
